More About LARC
Annual Appreciation Dinner
Our annual gala takes place during the first quarter of the year, generally late March to early April. This formal event serves as our way of saying thank you to those who have helped LARC. Civic organizations are invited and given the opportunity to make public contributions to LARC and businesses that contract with LARC’s workshop for completion of tasks are selected to be given an award of appreciation. Staff members and clients are recognized as they reach milestones in their time with the agency. Often it is at this dinner when the Ted Sailor Humanitarian Award is offered to an individual or organization who has given unselfishly of themselves to the benefit of those we serve at LARC. The recipient of this award is selected by the board of directors and only offered when an individual or an organization truly stands out in the support offered.
The Appreciation Dinner offers cocktails, Hors D’oeuvres, and a plated dinner for its guests. Also offered is a wide array of items on a silent or the premier auction including sports tickets, golf packages, jewelry, or week-end packages for room and dinner. Also included you will find items donated from local businesses from packages for cooking, painting, and gardening or all you need to help out in the yard. You’ll find books, throws, wines, and much more on the auction tables for your bidding pleasure. Also offered at this event is a 50/50 cash raffle, a pick-a-prize raffle where you can have fun bidding on a variety of packages for only a dollar a chance and as well as a condo raffle for a week at a lovely condo in Florida generously offered by the owner and one of LARC’s generous supporters along with $500.00 in VISA gift cards. You’ll be offered a program which will help navigate and explain all the wonderful options you have.
Paired with this event is an Ad Book which offers individuals and businesses the opportunity to show their support of LARC. Businesses are listed in phone book fashion at the front of the book as LARC encourages everyone to support those who support our mission. Family members place ads to recognize achievements of those in the program or offer memorials for loved ones. The ad books are distributed to all who attend and a copy can be provided to everyone that places an ad. This event is made possible with many volunteer hours and the generosity of many of our supporters. You really won’t want to miss this event.
Steps for Support Walk-a-thon
As we kick off the second quarter of the year, we select a beautiful Sunday (generally the Sunday after Mother’s Day) to host a walk-a-thon paired with an inviting lunch from Mancino’s. This event allows individuals to show their support to LARC for little or no cost. We ask that each walker gather sponsors to support their efforts and raise funds for our mission. While the cost of registration, $20.00, will get you a commemorative T-shirt and lunch, if you gather $200.00 or more in sponsorships, the registration fee is waived. We welcome walkers as well as those who simply want to come for the lunch.
During those sunny days of summer, LARC invites Nelson’s Port-a-Pit Chicken to come to Lansing to roast their famous chicken for our supporters to purchase. In the parking area of First Church PCA (formerly 1st Reformed Church) on the corner of Ridge Road and Burnham Avenue in Lansing, an easy drive through is set up as customers can drive through the line, order their dinners, and have the food handed to them without leaving their car. A dinner of ½ chicken, roasted potatoes and more are delivered to the vehicle within 2 – 5 minutes. Initiated in 2009, this event has grown each year. No need to cook, just pick-up your complete dinner on the way home.
LARC Annual Golf Outing
Our third quarter offers our annual golf outing which was initiated in 1995 and welcomes over 100 participants. Offering the ability to play on one of the private courses in the area, our outing also provides lunch on the front lawn prior to your round, and plated dinner and cocktails following. You are greeted with registration gifts and door prizes as you are offered the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and invited to participate in a putting contest that can win you $5000.00 and another $5000.00 for LARC. One attempt to make the qualifying putt is given to each golfer with the opportunity to purchase additional chances. While on the course enjoy complimentary beverages and the opportunity to win prizes. Our golf committee is comprised of volunteer, board members, and staff who strives to make this one of the nicest outings you could attend and volunteers are on hand to assist in any way needed to make certain the day runs smoothly.
LARC Car Cruise
Initiated in 2013, LARC offers car enthusiast an opportunity to come and admire a variety of classic cars under the August sun. Take a leisurely walk to view these great automobiles and while you are here enjoy a bit of lunch. We’ll fire up the grill to cook hot dogs, hamburgers, and cheese burgers as well as walking tacos and chips. Enjoy a cold beer, a glass of wine, or a soda pop with your lunch. No cost to attend, just come and enjoy.
Annual Fall Fundraiser
During the final quarter of the year, we host our fish fry in late September or early October. One of our best attended events, guest arrive to find the workshop transformed into one of the largest dining rooms around. Each year the committee selects a theme to help express one of LARC’s qualities and carry it out throughout the evening. This event requires over 75 staff and volunteers to help welcome up to 800 guests. Dinner offers a choice of lake perch, shrimp, a combination of both or chicken for those who do not prefer sea food. Included with your dinner you will receive french fries, cold slaw, bread, coffee and a dessert made by LARC’s Parents, staff, and clients. Also available throughout the evening in our beer garden is beer, wine, soft drinks, root beer floats, nachos and cheese, and let’s not forget the free popcorn. A cash raffle is held at this event which offers 6 lucky individuals the opportunity to win a cash prize. LARC’s Parent’s and Friends offer an array of hand crafted items and a raffle for various themed baskets. Come enjoy a great dinner prepared on site by Glenwood Oaks Restaurant and served faster than almost any place around. After you finish dinner, stay awhile and enjoy the music,
LARC’s Holiday Fund Campaign is targeted to current donors in the month of December, and placed in the final newsletter of the year. We sincerely hope that in the spirit of giving embraced during the holidays, individuals will remember LARC’s mission and those who we serve throughout the year.
Initiated in the spring of 2007, the SCRIP program was adopted in hopes it would become a steady supplement to LARC’s sources of revenue. This is a program that does not ask our supporters to spend any money that they would not otherwise spend. As individuals purchase gift cards made available through this program, LARC in return received a percentage of that purchase from the vender. A vast variety of cards are available from restaurants, retail stores, drug/grocery stores, gas station, hotels, and even the all-inclusive VISA cards. Gift cards are great for gifts or just to have available in your wallet. It is scheduled so that you can place an order by the first and third Friday of each month and your card(s) will be available the following Thursday. Once you begin using this program you’ll be glad you did.
We hope you will consider supporting LARC through one or more of these opportunities. If many give a small portion, much will be gained for those individuals that we serve. Thank you in advance for you continued support.
